Мукоку[1] was a state in the Bolganio continent's Akuna region. Collapsing several centuries after its foundation, the country continued to exist centuries later.

HistoryПравить

Foundation and CollapseПравить

Sometime after the Levianta Catastrophe, the kingdom of Mukoku was founded by the Li Family. At some point, a great wall was built along the country's borders;[2] later on, the kingdom collapsed.[3] Around the 6th century EC, the reigning king declared that only natives were allowed to pass through the nation's border wall.[4] The nation continued to exist by the EC 900s.[5]

World's EndПравить

In EC 998, Mukoku was completely decimated by Punishment. Following the end of the Third Period, the destruction site merged with the Hellish Yard along with the rest of the ground world.[6]

Government and PoliticsПравить

Power StructureПравить

Before and after its collapse, Mukoku's government functioned as a monarchy, with a monarch presiding over the state. Before the nation's collapse, the reigning monarch was powerful enough to order the construction of large structures. Following Mukoku's collapse, the monarchy still had a considerable amount of influence over the populace, able to instill strong nationalism in the people.[7]

MilitaryПравить

Mukoku's military included guards who were stationed along its border wall. Said guards typically wielded large axes and were clad in green and red armor.[8]

EconomyПравить

Mukoku had enough manpower and resources to construct and maintain a large wall. Mukoku's economy was also sufficient enough to maintain itself without the physical presence of foreign traders within the nation's borders. Despite this development, the roads leading to its borders were rough and unpaved.[9]

Society and CultureПравить

The Mukokuese were a proud people, loyal to their king and country. Possessing a strong sense of nationalism, the natives saw their country as great even after its collapse. After the reigning king prohibited foreigners from entering Mukoku, the natives deemed the wall and its guards as necessary to protect their homeland.

The Mukokuese were characterized by their medium-toned skin, black hair and black eyes; their intolerance of foreigners resulted in racial homogeneity within the nation. Because of this homogeneity, a typical citizen could easily distinguish foreigners from natives and would sometimes be disturbed by foreign appearances.[10] At some point, Mukoku was regarded as the "great kingdom of the east".[11] Because of its isolation, Mukoku was considered one of the unexplored kingdoms of the East by the 6th century EC.[12]

Geography and ClimateПравить

Located in the Akuna region, Mukoku was east of the Evillious region and west of Jakoku. Separated by an ocean from the latter, Mukoku was relatively near its neighbor. The land around the country's borders had a flat and rocky terrain.[13]

TriviaПравить

Conceptualization and OriginПравить

  • Mukoku is possibly inspired by the real world nation of China; Mukoku's culture and appearance bears many similarities with that of dynastic China.
  • Mukoku's name is written in Japanese kanji as 無国, literally meaning "nothing land"; this may be a reference to the song The Journey of Two Mages ~Great Wall and Watchman~, where Gumillia notes there is nothing on the other side of the wall.
